There is something extremely powerful about a word spoken out loud. Often times we think things in our heads, then forget about them because we did not write them down or we did not speak them.
Proverbs 18 tells us that the power of life and death is in the tongue. The spoken word. The meaning and resolve behind saying a thing out loud is never fully understood or felt until the thought takes shape, the vocal chords work in harmony with the mouth, and a phrase or a statement is uttered into reality.
Here is my magic phrase that I have to say out loud when I know that God has spoken to me clearly through His word, a friend, or in my heart by the Holy Spirit.
"HERE AND NOW, LORD JESUS..."
That seals the deal for me. I have to hear myself confess this out loud. This means I am not playing games anymore. I cannot hide anonymously. I cannot disobey. Once I say this, I have committed everything to obey whatever God has told me to do.
Here and now, Lord Jesus, I decide to forgive that person and their offense.
Here and now, Lord Jesus, I declare that I will not look at porn today on my computer.
Here and now, Lord Jesus, I promise to give that amount of money that you told me to give.
Here and now, Lord Jesus, I choose to spend the day with my family with my phone turned off and free of distractions.
Here and now, Lord Jesus, I commit to being in the gym 4 days next week, no matter what happens.
Here and now, Lord Jesus, I declare that I will be up early tomorrow, and in your Word, before 6 AM.
Here and now, Lord Jesus, I choose to hold my tongue when I am so angry at my children that I could scream!
Try it and see how it makes you feel. You cannot hide or make excuses when you say it out loud, because Jesus and the angelic hosts of heaven heard you say it. Once it is said, you are accountable to it.
Let your tongue and the words that flow from your mouth make you a woman or a man of your word. Say it out loud. Then do it.

Wow, this may be the first time I’ve ever been shown how to handle myself when I know I’m a believer, yet I can’t stop doing some of the sins I did prior to trusting Christ. Wish id heard this durring seminary. Thanks for this message Clayton!
