Slaves and Sons

by: Clayton King

So you are no longer a slave, but a son.  And since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.  Galatians 4:7

There are two kinds of people in this world.  One is a slave.  The other is a son.

Slaves own nothing.  They have no rights.  No property.  No posessions.  No freedom.  Slaves are told what to do by their master.  Their existence rises and falls on the whims of whoever owns them.

Sons, and daughters, own everything that their Father owns.  All His property.  All His wealth.  All His authority.  Even His own name belongs to them.  And by virtue of the Father's goodness, His sons and daughters are not just His children.  They are His heirs.  Everything that is His is also theirs.  Both now and ultimately.

The slavemaster is sin.  It cracks the whip and barks orders at us.  Every human being was once a slave to sin or is currently in slavery to sin.

But in Christ, sin lost the authority over us and God claimed His rightful authority.  We are now slaves to a better master.  A master who rules over us with love, not tyranny.  A master who reigns over us with grace, not evil.  And we are indeed more than His slaves.  We are His sons, His daughters, His heirs.

Are you still a slave to sin?  How foolish.  You can be so much more.  You can have so much more.  Throw off the yoke of slavery and rise up to take your rightful place as an heir to all that God has given you in Jesus Christ!
